Label 228: A Street Art Project

In 2009, camden noir published the first installment in what was supposed to be a series of street art books. With the help of Myspace and just old fashioned “word-of-mouth,” noir reached out to artists all over the world to contribute to his book.

There was only one rule. The collected artwork had to be a on a Priority Mail label from the post office, official parlance, Label 228. After about a year or so of collecting labels, noir compiled them into a book and began searching for a publisher.

Two years passed. And even after sixteen rejections, and two failed literary agents, noir never gave up hope that the book would be published. After sending out another round of emails to publishers, Soft Skull Press ended up taking the project into their hands.

The book was published and received high praise, even reaching the top 15 new books on Amazon’s Best Seller list for almost a week.

Noir is currently accepting submissions for a second book and is still searching for a publisher.

camden noir is a tattoo artist at With Love Tattoo Co. in Savannah, GA.
