faran riley
Faran Riley (b. Savannah, GA, 1986), graduated from the Savannah Arts Academy for high school before attending The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University. She studied installation art and relational aesthetics, creating site specific installations and interactive experiences. Concurrently, she freelanced as a display designer for department stores and small businesses. While living in Cambridge, MA, she independently studied with a group of architects, artists and scientists in the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at MIT and was the studio assistant to artist and architectural theorist Yunhee Min.
In 2011 she moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she refocused her studio practice to drawing. Her work has gradually moved from creating viewer experiences to a more introspective art practice. She developed an illustrative style combining intricate detail with loose washes of ink. In 2020, Faran returned to her hometown of Savannah, GA and is based out of Sulfur Studios. In her latest body of work she delves into her subconscious to create images through a meditative drawing practice.
