“In Spanish, ‘maricaditas varias’ is the colloquial term for the idea of collecting and storing items or artifacts without any specific purpose or need, just to have it. Similar to hoarding. Inspired by Ingrid Schaffner’s exhibition in the 70s, Deep Storage, I question my relationship to storage as an artist within this piece. Whether it is for sentimental reasons, functionality or simply comforting, I collect items, mediums and materials that for some might be trash or look like trash, but if processed and arranged in a different way can create something different. Not only reflecting a rich visual language, but an ongoing presence and historical value, due to the provenance of the mediums that made this piece possible. This print was made possible, thanks to the “maricaditas varias” I have collected throughout the years as an artist, here in the US, with the perfect excuse it might become beneficial some day to me.”
