“Once Upon a Time…” is an M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition by Xun Liu, featuring a contemporary jewelry collection about storytelling and imagination.

Narrative plays an important role through human history, regardless of format. The story guides and shapes the way we live our lives, the way we communicate with others, and the relationships we develop. We tell stories to be part of the social world, which allows us to understand and examine ourselves. This collection questions why people abandon what is meaningful to them, using selected found objects to create these pieces in sculptural ways. By giving these objects unique voices and individual characteristics leading to a new life in the form of jewelry, they communicate with people beyond their physical form. The artistic process creates jewelry that evokes a sense of playfulness, joy, and imagination.
