Danse Macabre is an exhibition of paintings, prints, drawings and collages by Axelle Kieffer and Jordan Fitch Mooney.
The danse macabre, a theme born out of the religious and political forces of Late Middle Ages, echoes across the centuries into our modern era. Death comes for All, with no consideration for station or status.
“We were what you are, and you will be what we are.”
Today the figure of death as a corpse or skeleton is no longer solely associated with religious works, but its use maintains an extended dialogue with the images that have come before. Each century creates its own danse macabre to exorcise its own fears. This imagery filters through the works of Axelle Kieffer and Jordan Fitch Mooney; using these sources to examine our time, speaking to the artistic dialogue while also grappling with their personal experiences.
Danse Macabre is on display from September 26th – October 12th 2019 and may be seen during Sulfur Studios’ regular business hours Thursday through Saturday from noon – 5PM or by appointment. The Reception is on Friday, October 4th from 6 - 9PM in conjunction with First Fridays in Starland.
