“‘Wild Caught’ creates a spectrum of vivid color from post-consumer plastic objects retrieved from local waterways and beaches and represents a departure from my more pictorial works of recent years created with similar materials. This assemblage emphasizes shapes and colors, focusing on individual objects, which saw brief use before they were added to the streams of waste polluting our waterways, natural environments and our own bodies. Some of the objects included are plastic beach toys left on the sands of Tybee Island, seemingly innocuous toys made to represent the very wild animals which are impacted by the global problem of plastic production, consumption and waste.”
