Monica Jane Frisell and Adam Scher will gather stories and large format, black and white portraits of residents of Savannah, GA, which will be added to their growing catalog and long term project Portrait of US. At the end of the month they will share these portraits and audio stories in a pop up exhibit open to the public.
Their Nomadic Photo Ark is traveling around the country, creating a growing and evolving collection of stories and portraits of the United States today. The Ark has a fully contained photo darkroom and small office space. From there they develop film, print portraits, and edit interviews.
Throughout the month, the Ark will be available for tours and walkthroughs. Planned workshops will enable participants to learn the basics of analog photography and storytelling. Participants will make pinhole cameras and print from paper negatives within the Ark. Paired with one another, they are encouraged to take each other's portraits and exchange a small story. The work and the stories made at the workshop will be shown at the end of the month.
Monica and Adam will be open to the public at Sulfur Studios Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 5 to share the Ark, gather stories and make portraits with anyone interested.

About the Artists
Monica Jane Frisell: Monica Jane Frisell is a nomadic analog photographer and artist, who spent much of their early career in New York City and Seattle. Frisell has traveled the US extensively, finding most of their inspiration while on the road and getting lost in new communities.
Their work blends elements of fine art with documentary, and storytelling to bring to life stories that may otherwise be lost. Their use of analog materials helps bring more intentionality to every photograph in this fast paced world.
Adam Scher: Adam Scher is an artist from Seattle, WA with a background in photography, graphic design and radio production. He started cycling long distances by bike in his early 20s. In 2014, Scher biked 3 full months across Europe, from Belgium to Portugal. His artistic inspirations come from the road and meeting new people. Scher is forever inspired by new landscapes, discovering the history of different places and exploring what has not yet been seen.
