Summer in the City, a Supporter Exhibition at Sulfur Studios, will present a collection of works born of the summer heat - thick with tension and release, reverie and rebellion, sultriness and starlight. This exhibition will highlight our community of Artist Supporters through work that embodies the heat of long days, the wandering late nights, the coastal oases present in our city as summer returns to Savannah.
Artists are asked to consider any or all of the following: What does summer bring to mind for you? How do you interpret the sensation of heat? How would you express any or all of the following: energy and momentum, tension and release, reverie and rebellion? These prompts are just starting points - creative interpretations in all media are encouraged.
Sulfur Studios is the flagship project of ARTS Southeast, a new non-profit whose mission is to make Savannah a destination for art and culture in the Southeast by supporting established and emerging artists and engaging a diverse community with creative programming by developing awareness and appreciation of the arts. Important Dates:
Entries Due: July 1st by 11:59PM
Artists notified: July 6th, 2021
Work received by gallery: from July 22nd - 31st during the gallery’s open hours (Thurs - Sun, noon - 5 pm)
Opening Reception: Friday, August 6th from 6 - 9PM in conjunction with First Fridays in Starland
Artist Spotlight via IG Live: TBA
Exhibition runs: August 5th - August 22nd, 2021
Work returned: Week of August 23rd
There is no fee to apply for current Sulfur Studios Supporters. Supporters are guaranteed a minimum of 1 piece in the exhibition, but Sulfur Studios will be jurying the selected works. If you would like to become a Sulfur Studios Supporter - click HERE
Work must weigh less than 75 pounds and fit through a standard size doorway. Shipping and insurance to and from the gallery will be the responsibility of the artist. Art is displayed at the artists risk. Sulfur Studios will handle all sales and a 40% commission will be retained by the gallery.
