Join us for the Opening Reception for What Are We Made Of: Renewing the Reclaimed, a solo exhibition on display at The Sentient Bean from June 9th - July 20th, 2021. The exhibition features works by Deborah Sherron Miller that focus on human experience and impact – in nature, in expression, and through what we create.
Deborah Sherron Miller is a self-taught artist currently living in Savannah, GA. Originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, her living experiences along the east coast and in Europe have built her perspective on life and art, fanning her artistic flames and bringing more depth and character to her work. Her main platforms are mixed media, oil, and acrylic, and jewelry has etched a foundation in her artistic space as well.
Miller’s mixed media art is a journey of self-exploration and social consciousness. Each project has a life of its own, containing reclaimed materials, found objects, fabric, yarn and acrylic paint. Continued preservation of our natural resources is what inspires Deborah to incorporate objects that would otherwise end up polluting our finite planet.
Deborah’s choice of medium came about through natural curiosity and innovation. “I’m always looking at something I am interested in buying and say to myself – I can make that,” says Miller. “Most times I do and try to make it out of something I already have.” Today, her work is over 90% reclaimed materials, much of it coming from donations from others.
Deborah’s mixed media artwork made an appearance in the FX miniseries Mrs. America, has been commissioned by private collectors, and has been exhibited at various art shows. She is a web designer, poet, an integral part of an organization devoted to protecting the earth, and she has taken her talents locally as a part time art educator at an area high school.
