Taking inspiration from Nicolas Bourriand’s manifesto on relational aesthetics, Call for Memories subverts the object-based art scene by offering an interactive experience. As a group meditation on the life events that define us, the exhibit asks participants to reflect upon those memories that define them--whether they are painful, beautiful, or a combination thereof.
Curator Chelsea Voss is a graduate student enrolled in the Business Design and Arts Leadership program at SCAD, with a B.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Florida. Her body of work over the past 10 years as an artist and curator explores the intersection of psychology and neuroscience. The concept for Call for Memories was born from her experience watching Alzheimer's steal her father's memories and sense of self.
Call for Memories is on display from February 28th – March 2nd 2019 and may be seen during the gallery’s normal business hours, Thursday – Saturday, noon to 5PM. The Opening Reception will take place from 6 - 9PM on March 1st in conjunction with First Fridays in Starland.
