"Forward" - Paintings by Kyra Crounse, Nick Dvorak, Anja Honisett, and Emily Tillman

'Forward' is a collaborative exhibition of works by Kyra Crounse, Nick Dvorak, Anja Honisett and Emily Tillman. As a farewell to their time as painting majors at SCAD with the precarious futures of their professional lives in the forefront of their minds, they have chosen to exhibit a collection of works indicative of their unique individual styles. The result is an eclectic combination of portrait, landscape and abstract paintings — each artist contributing a snapshot of their body of work, produced through extensive and individualized studio practice.

The common thread found in these four emerging artists’ work is response. Whether it be to the figure (Dvorak), place (Crounse), music (Tillman) or the state of society at large (Honisett) – each painter offers a two dimensional reverberation of their internal experiences.

Kyra Crounse (Pensacola, FL) was raised in Keller TX. Crounse explores the idea of creating imagery and memory of places previously unvisited by the viewer, her paintings are rendered in matte acrylic mediums on paper and panel.

Nick Dvorak (Baltimore, MD) combines realism with elements of impressionism, his work focusing primarily on the human figure. Dvorak typically uses oil on canvas/panel or digital printing.

Anja Honisett (Melbourne, Australia) creates oil paintings on canvas involving macro images of the human face. Honisett believes in art as communication and is interested in the intersection of philosophy, sociology and art. In understanding and observing ‘the spectacle’ present day society has found itself in, she engages in a dialogue regarding persona and curated social media facades.

Emily Tillman (Daytona Beach, FL) is inspired by her spontaneous emotional responses to music. Tillman’s energetic physical process consists of the active development of a multitude of layers resulting in experimental, large-scale mix-media abstract paintings.
