Join us during First Fridays in Starland on January 5th for the Opening Reception of "Margins." Henry Dean is a multi-media artist who lives and works in Savannah, GA. He teaches Foundations Studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design and is director/coordinator of the SCAD Drawing Minor.
“Margins” features two environmental pieces — "Tilt", a marsh installation executed near Port Royal in South Carolina and "Crescent Sun", a real-time video capture of a site-specific work set up in the path of totality during the August 21st 2017 solar eclipse.
For "Tilt," Dean purposefully wrapped nine canvases creating minimalist compositions rendered in natural media (bentonite, clay, hematite, charcoal), then placed them in the marsh on tripod rigs.
"Crescent Sun," with its audio soundscape, provides an uncanny, sensory experience. Dean was inspired by eclipse fever and the pilgrimage quality of the once-in-a-lifetime event.
“Margins” is on display from January 4th - 13th and may be seen during the gallery’s normal business hours, Thursday – Saturday, noon to 5PM. Also, be sure to join us for the closing reception and artist talk on Saturday, January 13th from 5 to 7PM.
