Alexandria P. Clay is a charcoal and mixed media collage artist. She lives and works in Durham, North Carolina. Clay obtained her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2018. Raised in Raleigh, NC, her work draws upon the experiences of black women and girls living in the southern United States. She is an artist and part time educator.
During her On::View Residency, in tandem with her practice, Alexandria will encourage community members to share their methods of placemaking, and ways that they reclaim space in daily life. Through collage-based workshops, folks will be encouraged to identify the spaces that fail to support their identities, and hypothesize what changes they might make in spaces like these. Alexandria hopes through conversation and collage, we may strengthen community, amplify voices, and create more inclusive institutions in our own backyards.
