Sulfur Studios is pleased to present Midnight in the Garden of Earthly Delights, a project by Catherine Counihan & Faran Riley Peterson in the Drive Thru Art Box at Green Truck Pub from April 10th - June 8th, 2022.

About the Artists: Catherine Counihan & Faran Riley Peterson

Cat and Faran were born and raised in Savannah, GA. The two met in high school and became fast friends as young adults. They bonded over their love of art, shared Irish heritage and trans generational Catholic guilt. They have collaborated on several projects over the years, including a noise band that toured in 2007. Both artists moved away from Savannah for quite a few years only to return in their mid-30s and rekindle their old friendship and collaborative spirit. 

About the Project: Midnight in the Garden of Earthly Delights

Midnight in the Garden of Earthly Delights is an homage to Heironymous Bosch’s three paneled opus, The Garden of Earthly Delights, and the artists’ love and grievances for their hometown. For better or worse Savannah is rapidly changing. The city has managed to hang on to its authentic grit despite the best efforts of real estate developers and investors to scrub it clean. In this triptych, the artists honor the city’s past and present as well as its weird and wonderful characters while also nodding towards some of its more sordid elements. Like Bosch’s painting, this piece depicts a certain version of heaven on earth as well as a darkness just around the corner.
