Sulfur Art Services is pleased to present "Expedition Fun," a solo exhibition by Bryson Thurston on display at The Sentient Bean from November 10th, 2021 - January 11th, 2022.
Exhibition Statement
In "Expedition Fun," artist Bryson Thurston blurs the lines of adventure and misadventure through a playful series of mixed media paintings, solely created in the year 2021. A majority of the work was heavily inspired by time Bryson spent on Tybee Island and in Savannah during late spring. A spiritual undertone is present throughout the work: letting go of fear, reconnection with the inner child, deprogramming the subconscious mind, and connectivity to the collective consciousness through love. These themes serve as a reflection of Brysonʼs inner journey since 2019. The cowboys, explorers, and characters found in his paintings are reminiscent of a childʼs fantasies of adventure and seem to have a story all their own. Bryson chooses to leave much up to the imagination: the series invites the inner child of the viewer out to play, rekindling a sense of joy and curiosity we all once knew.
Artist Bio
Bryson Thurston is a self-taught, intuitive artist currently based out of his hometown, Decatur, Alabama. He is known for his bright colors, whimsical characters, and uplifting spiritual themes that “invite the inner child of the viewer out to play...this bridges the generational gap and further connects us as a species.” The artwork Bryson creates is primarily inspired by visions, spiritual experiences, and the human experience. He has exhibited work regionally, created album art for an array of musicians internationally, such as his frequent collaborator Star Slinger, collaborated with Eco-Fashion designer Anna Herman, created his own clothing line, and is in the process of self publishing his first childrenʼs book.
