"The Remains" by Qiuxin Mao, Curated by Dandi Gu


“The Remains,” an exhibition by award-winning illustrator Qiuxin Mao, features a body of work that examines the juxtaposition of people, time, and other entities. Through examining the world from a different perspective, she hopes to recall her dreams through her art. For Qiuxin, these works are an expression of amazement toward the never-ceasing splendor of the cosmic world through the eyes of a curious wanderer who hopes to explore and grasp its fleeting beauty.

 Opening Reception: Friday, May 17th, 6 pm - 9 pm

Artist Talk: Saturday, May 18th, 2 pm -  3 pm

On View: May 15th - May 19th, 2019, noon - 5pm

 

Artist Bio:

Qiuxin Mao is an award-winning illustrator from Beijing, China. In 2016, she completed her B.F.A. in Game and Interactive Media Design at the Communication University of China. She is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design. Qiuxin possesses a sensitivity toward to elapse of time and the evanescent beauty, which she prominently displays in her comics, illustrations, and motion media projects. Her inspiration derives from multiple creative outlets. These include literature, music, and most importantly, her dreams. In 2019, Qiuxin received the Gold Award in the editorial category at the Spectrum 26 Awards Ceremony. She hopes to build on this achievement and immerse her audience in a world of fantasy through her works.

 Curator Bio:

Dandi Gu graduated with M.A. in Business Design and Arts Leadership at Savannah College of Art and Design and earned her B.F.A. degree in Multimedia Digital Art and Design from the China Academy of Art. Gu devotes herself as a curator and creative consultant collaborating with talented artists from various background and nationalities, including fashion designers, performing artists, illustrators, sound designers to curate exhibitions and shows both in China and the United States. Currently, Gu works and lives in New York and Savannah.
