“The strong trunk of a dead Life Oak can remain standing for decades on Jekyll Island’s Driftwood Beach. The tree won’t fall until the power of the waves has completely exposed its roots. The Jekyll Island Authority uses beach renourishment (pumping sand from the bottom of the sea to the beach) and dune restoration to prevent Driftwood Beach from eroding further.”
